ISLESBORO ENERGY TEAM UPDATE
APRIL 17, 2023
by the IET Staff Team
In our 2022 Islesboro Island News December report recently, we reflected on our mission and reconfirmed our IET commitment to serve the Islesboro community through energy-oriented initiatives that focus on efficiency, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.
One way we will do all that is by conversations that build relationships, and the informal and formal networking that happens with people connected with other like-minded organizations. Our mutual interests lay the groundwork for working together, future meetings, events, and programs.
Another way is through seeing what other island organizations, committees and businesses are involved with, and getting to know people who work with them. Learning what they do and sharing common ideas almost always suggest things for future thinking and action.
We exchange ideas about how air quality, toxic emissions, green energy, buildings, transportation, fossil fuels, agriculture, books, media, the UN, water, weather, birds, mammals, wells, global warming, waste, politics, big and small business, forestry, aquaculture, economics, power outages, heating, government, and countless other concerns affect each other and us, and will in the future. And we think about how we can help find positive and impactful solutions together and individually.
IIT encourages all Islesboro residents to have conversations about how energy efficiency is an extremely important social and economic topic, and to make it an ongoing discussion topic that leads to meaningful action and becoming true stewards for the good of our island and ourselves.
In the meantime, IIT continues to work on its current projects: expanding distribution of Green Energy Times in Maine; making plans for the sixth Islesboro Energy Conference next fall; taking orders for island residents who want to order new window inserts or need repairs for worn ones; development of a website; and regular additions to our Facebook pages.
